Game crashing on startup

I open the game and it immediately stops responding on the valve logo, doesn't start working if I let it sit a few minutes. I verified the files and restarted my computer but those didn't help. Currently reinstalling the game. If that doesn't work, what can I do? The game opened fine the last time I played a week or two ago. The system requirements couldn't have changed, right?

Editing because the reinstall finished and the same thing is happening.

I got the game to actually load after opening and closing it over and over for like 15 minutes and then letting it sit for a couple minutes. This hasn't fixed the issue permanently, because after finishing playing and trying to open it again the next day, the crash is still happening. A few of my friends are also having a similar issue, though they can just let their game sit for a minute and it will get unstuck without having to wait that long.
