Drifter's gun isn't a shotgun and damage is wrongly calculated

Drifter's weapon "Crimson Grasp" is a spreadshot type yet damage dealt doesn't depend on amount of pellets hit per shot.
It is always the same value and same rules apply to all on hit items such as toxic bullets: by logic 26% should be applied only if all three shots hit the target, but it applies even if only one pellet was hit.
 
I believe this has always been an intentional mechanic special to drifters weapon, its easier to think of the weapon as like a slice that comes out rather than an actual shotgun. I personally think either the visuals or the weapon categorization should change rather than the mechanics.
