[DISCUSSION] Should a spirit version of Plated Armor be added to the game?

Yes, I am aware of Spellbreaker but that only works for burst damage and good that it exists.
IMO continuous spirit damage especially in late game and with the addition of victor is still very oppressive and I think it's time we get some sort of 6.4k item that reduces the amount of incoming spirit damage the more you take some or something similar.

What do you guys think? What would be your idea such an item?

I will say that this is a rather hard question. Spellbreaker exists, because spirit damage can be small and continious, or instant and huge. In case of bullet damage there is no "burst" damage value, the bullets are the same, only fire rate changes. I think it is hard to imagine an item that won't be useless or overpowered.

This is my take on such item. Perhaps it would be OP in cases when you take really minor damage for a long time, such as Spirit Burn. Then item can receive a damage threshold to prevent abuse, similar to the Spellbreaker.

I'm just going to point out that the require damage to trigger Spellbreaker is a measly 150. That's NOTHING and is basically there to prevent the CD from getting soaked up by something pitiful like 1 bullet of Wraith's Full Auto or Mercurial Magazine. Basically any ability in the game will trigger it by the time people have enough farm to consider getting an item like Spellbreaker if they have even a minor investment in spirit.

That said, generally the item to build against consistent damage of ANY type is the hard Resilience items. Spirit resilience specifically offers a bit less Spirit Resist because it was just too strong against Spirit heroes.

It is also REALLY important to remember that when you activate the extra passive from the Resilience items, that extra Resist is not affected by the normal Diminishing returns you might expect it to. The effect actually just INCREASES the Resist given from the item instead of adding a whole other instance of Resist, which means they are exactly as effective as they say on the description, unlike stacking resist from multiple sources works. This is exactly why Spirit Resilience is so strong on Victor, as he regularly wants to be at low-ish health so that his Spirit Resist is crazy high from Spirit Resilience, and he can constantly benefit even more from his healing.

So with that said, no I don't think we need a "Plated Armor" equivalent for Spirit resist. I feel that Spirit defenses are actually better covered than Bullet Resistances by the items in game.

Also, if you had some kind of "plated Armor" for spirit and Victor is the reasoning as to why you feel this would be important; I'd like to remind you that this kind of item would actually be SUBSTANTIALLY stronger on Victor than anyone trying to fight him, as he will ALWAYS be subject to his Aura of Suffering, whereas heroes buying it against him will only SOMETIMES be affected by his aura if they are positioned poorly against him.

The 75% damage reduction in spellbreaker could last around 2 to 3 seconds, which would make those spiritual builds that deal monstrous spirit damage more manageable. An Plated Armor for spirit damage would definitely be a broken item—imagine ignoring all the damage from Geist’s ultimate.

It would be an interesting item but I would change the maximum stacks to 10 and the resistance per stack to 5% because if you take damage for 20 seconds you will already be dead.

There just isn't enough "consistent" spirit dps sources that are relevant enough to dedicate an entire tier 4 to. The few that do exist are countered just fine by existing spirit resist options.

Plated Armor is also terribly designed. It's easily one of the most boring and forgettable items imaginable, only rivaled by the forced buy that keeps it balanced called Armor Piercing Rounds.

I feel that this is a good take on such an item as it remains somewhat general in usage but still allows burst damage to shred your health. This item could also work against groups and not just sustained damage which I think is where it'd often shine for tanks like Victor or Abrams.
