Crippling Debt (Tier 2 Vitality)

A credit card that allows you to buy items with souls you don't have yet. 1600 souls, T2 Vitality.

Your maximum loan is 1,600 souls (+200 souls per minute). However:
  • If you are in debt and are at low health, the Debt Collector will appear, sniping the player from a distance.
  • It is impossible to sell this item if you are in debt.
My main motive for suggesting this item is I think it would be funny. But I also think the benefits don't come for free.
You could buy an additional T1 towards the end of laning, or an additional T4 by the end game, but it becomes a question of if it's worth the now extra tense situations at low health.

The reason I categorize this as vitality is because it would feel strange to bias towards eating a Weapon or Spirit slot

the idea that if you're low the debt collector just snipes you out of nowhere is really funny and cool

but the concept might need a slightly different implementation, buying an item that lets you buy more items seems a bit counterintuitive. Would need to be a hero ability, map interaction, or something else that doesn't actually cost souls at first.

LoL had this mechanic in the game for a bit a few seasons ago as a "talent" choice (whatever they call them, icr). The pros could use it well and finish items early and get power spikes early when used but ultimately this was removed.

I think its very difficult to balance, especially when comparing high to low elos. One of those broken at high but terrible in low elo.

I think the context is a bit different.

With this item, there's a more explicit punishment for overusing it with the Debt Collector appearing at low HP. Even if you're an Eternus player, you're still going to find yourself at 20% HP, and it's going to be a question if you should continue using this item. It also eats a Vitality slot, at T2, so it may not be the most strategic thing to abuse, as you can't sell the item while you're still in debt.

With Future's Market in LoL, there are no explicit punishments and it comes "for free" as a passive independent of your item slots. I think that made it much more susceptible to be abused. Even then, it was only really meta for a small handful of characters, although it was a while since I played.

It may be best to wait and see how Trophy Collector is handled with the current patch, since I think it's conceptually adjacent.

Ive seen a lot of people stating that trophy collector is noob bate item and never worth picking up.

I think the item has promise, it sounds really fun and it definitely lets you choose to power spike earlier and risk more deaths.

Maybe instead of a debt collector sniping and killing you at low HP, they would manifest as an entity only you can see and would constantly chase you around and try to kill you (They'd be pretty strong). This would make the item less about "try not to be on low health or you die" and more about being at a constant risk of dying but with enough skill still being able to survive for longer.

Extra info on this, the debt collector would definitely be able to outrun and reach you if you don't have a proper escape route, so they're not weak. Additionally, the debt collector would probably be able to spawn at any random location near you with a very obvious sound queue and VFX (Maybe they rise from the ground slowly).

Also this item could be fun to play with as Lash since you could grapple onto the Debt Collector themselves.

Sadly that's the territory these kinds of mechanics have, yeah.
My perspective is this is ultimately an extra spicy Trophy Collector. I think the item name decently implies this is a high risk investment.

I like the idea of the ghost only being perceivable to the person that bought the item. There's a lot of ways you can go about it.
That being said, personally I think it's best if the ghost only shows up on debt, otherwise it could come across as unfair.
