Crazy idea: time stop

This is an incredibly stupid idea, but I want to see if it's possible to make it work.
  • Ability pauses the game for everyone but the user for a few seconds
  • Very long cooldown because it would be incredibly annoying, and refresher does not reset it
  • Anything like projectiles do not travel until time resumes

the general concept has been done in other mobas. Its just never global (too strong).

make this a smallish radius (I dont know the numbers for radiuses off the top of my head) like a Calico ult with no range items. Everyone caught in this "time zone" is frozen, except the character whose ability (ult) this belongs too.

Other possibilities to this type of ult:

Make larger zone, doesnt freeze but slows down time for everyone except the caster. Caster is sped up instead. This includes projectiles. Since this is not hard cc zone can be much much larger and last longer because it allows others to still act and thus using items.

If you go that route, then it just becomes a different flavor of dynamo ult. The idea behind it is that tactical pausing, while being incredibly toxic and may get you banned, leads to a lot of interesting standoffs as everyone re-evaluates the situation.

"my" 2 versions are literally what you are asking for on a smaller scale that requires more skill to use and counter play.

And its not a dynamo ult, that is a support ult.

this is a control mage/carry ult as you get to carry on killing either unhindered or suped up. Dynamo has to stand there and hope he doesnt die and that his teammates capitalize on his ult.

These are 2 completely different archetypes.

Let me clarify: pausing for everyone in a small radius would basically have the same effect as black hole, except that it also annoys teammates. Slowing everything in a much larger radius is just boring.

I'm not arguing that this idea isn't stupid or overpowered, I just want to see if it's possible to make it balanced in a way that doesn't suck, be it by giving the hero a support oriented kit, or limiting the damage potential, etc. I thought of having the duration be short and freeze the user's projectiles because it would give opponents the ability to anticipate and react instead of receiving free damage. You would still need good awareness to make the most out of it, because a long cooldown makes it wasteful to use it as a panic button, and pausing the game can mess up everyone.

Not 100%. I just want to see what happens if you change tactical pausing from a griefing tactic to a game mechanic.

Not the point. The point is that it's dynamo, but worse. There are other abilities in the game that can unintentionally grief teammates, like ice dome, cube, wall, or rescue beam

well. most people hate globals period. My "versions" are just smaller scaled version of yours. Really thats it.
