Counterspell and parry show animations even when late

In these clips I think they failed because I clicked late, but you can see that the animations go through anyway. This makes it really confusing mid-game when you can't roll back and say "okay yeah that was a couple ms late." There are probably better clips to demonstrate this as these were particularly late, but this is something I've noticed a lot which has made counterspell annoying to use, and friends have complained similarly.

I'm not sure if this is an intended behavior or not, but at the very least I'd expect the animations to be canceled instead of going through when they fail. It makes no sense for the animations to go through after you're slept/stunned, because you can't cast them under those effects. It would also be nice if there were some indicator in the animations to tell you when the counterspell/parry is actually active, since they seem to have a bit of a windup before being functional (not demonstrated well in these clips, though related to the animations showing after sleep/stun). Ideally there would be no animation until they're actually active.

parries and counterspells are active immediately (or almost immediately), but they're registered with a delay depending on your latency to the server, the game displays the visuals immediately regardless to make it feel responsive, but as far as the server is concerned, you never pressed counterspell before getting slept
this is a source of very great frustration lol.

Yeah it kinda sucks. It doesn't matter if you have the best reflexes in the world; the counters only work based on prediction. If the ability is unreactable, you have to anticipate the enemy's timing rather than just reacting to the animation.

Yeah this is a pretty crazy example. Only 70-80 ping too. Makes the game very frustrating, especially against characters like Viscous. I'd much rather see when my ability actually goes off so I can adjust to the latency than have to play mind games because the client is lying to me.
