You can't counterspell doorman's ult pre-emptively, only at the end when the hotel is about to expire.

Yep. Been like that since Doorman was released and has been pointed out since then too. Sadly using Counter Spell and not doing the hotel is considered fail to check out and gives Doorman 13s cooldown. So the changes forces you to do hotel no matter what. Even if you use e.g Pocket Satchel or Ethereal Shift to avoid the damage.

I'm okay with that. What I find weird is you counter spell before and you can't even put doorman's ultimate into full cooldown, but instead act as if you didn't counterspell in the first place.
You technically didn't "check out", however when you counterspell before it, you don't "check out", because you should never have been CHECKED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!

Might be an oversight because of the hitting of hotel is transporting your character. But it has been mentioned here when he was initially released without any fix so far. I definitely hope they fix it now that he has been reworked. If it's considered a bug at all.
