Corrupted file citadel\pak01.vpk- happens too often and now getting banned for leaving

I can confirm that this is still present in the latest patch. Just experienced this twice in a row, and right as I queued into a match as well unfortunately, so I will likely have sanctions against my account now. I'm attaching my .mdmp files in case these help. I hope that they do.

Seems that everyone with the issue have 32gb of RAM or more...

Can confirm it's happening to me constantly after every 3 or so games, even tried upgrading to win11 but no luck. 64 GB of ram here.

Continues to happen to me, tuned ram that is 100% stable. Tested using karhu, memtest, occt (small fft/p95), along with GPU burn-in for heat.

7800x3d, stock
6800xt, stock
2x16gb DDR5 H16M 6000 32-38-38 running at 6200 28-37-36 (issue is present at stock too though)

even tried forcefully undertuning compared to EXPO (e.g 6000 34-40-40 with loose tertiaries), again all 100% stable (24-48hr karhu + p95/memtest).

Found some success in nuking the specific corrupt file and verifying - otherwise steam will hang and refuse to verify/download/start the game, even after restarting steam. Requires full re-download if it doesn't work.

Thought it might be related to weird FCLK issues, but even at 2000 vs 2167 there's no change. Also messed with tRCD/tREFI/SCLs/etc in case it was some weird write/read issue.

Happens every 10-30 hours of playtime, CS2 has similar issues every 100-200 hours of playtime. No other issues in any other games (I'm assuming DOTA2 would have this issue though).

Will update if I ever get around to nuking windows for 24H2 update, I'm assuming a fresh OS + chipset drivers/etc might help.

BIOS update does not solve from my testing.

I am also having this issue. R5 7600X, 32gb 6000mhz ddr5, rx 7800 xt. Tried on 24.5.1 and 24.9.1 drivers. Running stock on 23H2. Had my first queue cooldown because of this.
UPDATE: Changed my RAM speeds to 5600mhz from 6000 and have played 3 games so far without issues.

If there is anything I can do to help provide Valve to prevent this let me know. Otherwise, can you please check a log file to see if the leave was due to a crash instead of hitting us with the penalty?

Also starting having this problem today, happened 3 times thorughout 2 games. Had to reinstall the game to fix it. Something that could help pinpoint the issue is that yesterday I formatted and installed windows 11. Was on windows 10 before and only encountered the problem once these past 3 months.

Also I was playing infernos who I don't really play ever. My only game with paradox today didn't have that problem.

This is absurd that we get banned from matchmaking due to an error that is not out fault. Either fix the .vpk issues, or don't issue bans due to software faults outside of our control.

Just happened again to me today in a ranked match, and I noticed it happened during a team fight where there were a lot of abilities going off at once, like Geist bomb, several casted items, etc.

@Yoshi I DMed you on Discord this forum ID, but I want to add what I DMed you there in case you read this first. But in my match 25170805, I had a crash after the second mid boss at 38:15 in the match replay. Shortly after it fell, a bunch of abilities such as Haze ult, Paradox ult, Geist 1, and several items all went off at once in rapid duration in the blue lane. Once I died, I immediately crashed with the same pak01.vpk error and I could not re-verify my files.

I'm guessing that team fights where lots of things are going on at once caused my RAM to spike

I can't find a crash dump for my most recent crash.

UPDATE: Happened again, also stuck on verify 0%, but i delete the corrupted .vpk, restart, launch steam, verify, close steam, start steam, delete another .vpk and verify and it works. Here are the dumps: 0xc0000005: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access., 0x80000003: A breakpoint was encountered.

Hi folks,

citadel\pak01.vpk

got me banned now the 3rd time due "leaving" a ranked match.

reinstalled the game etc. makes me mad.

2 hour ban for leaving due the game crashes and no one got a solution yet.:poop:

UPDATE: Since November 3rd i reinstalled the game, updated to Windows 11 2024 H2 and reinstalled the GPU drivers again and haven't had the corruption issues. The game still crashes sometimes, but launches again without issue.

bad luck./.. i hadnt had this issue in ages... i just got crashed midmatch again. It happened to be that when i got out of the game, there was a 4gb hl2 update and a very small deadlock update. deadlock wont update even after a reboot right now

it's dl_streets.vpk now

Man, i just got a temp ban from the vpk crash. I had to restart and reinstall multiple times. I could come back and then it would crash again. I even got some commends for coming back with my measly 5k souls for the last push. I wish this wouldn't happen so much.

It is so frustrating and confusing that when it crashes, it wont let the validate files work, and a full uninstall is needed. What's wild is after my uninstall it happened again on the first rejoin attempt.

Just posting here to say that sometimes it works to just delete the corrupted file and click play in steam. It re-downloads the file and usually isn't corrupted, if another is just rinse and repeat. Sometimes restarting during this deleting spree helps. Would like to not get banned when this happens but maybe warming up with a bots match is needed to verify it can run.

I just went through it again. Match 30012337. In early game it crashed. I needed to uninstall, reboot, complete updates to cs 2 and something else before deadlock would even start downloading again. It finally does and I get back in after a clean reinstall, and then within seconds the same crash happens.

I did a full uninstall reboot, reinstall again. Then it crashed on clicking rejoin from the menu.

Then, one of the fixes that sometimes works was tried, where instead of a full reinstall, I delete files in "bin" and verify the files.

Verify wasn't running, so i quit steam and relaunched, that kicked it into gear and it redownloaded and launched the game.

I was able to rejoin the game and was even a part of some kill assists. While the match said safe to abandon, everyone else was still there, and with me back, it was a full team again. That being said, I couldnt hear or see my weapon fire, but people confirmed it was, and things were hyper gittery, even though my FPS looked fine.

After the match completed, i went to join another and my ban was now for 6 hours. It's immensely frustrating to deal with the crashes, but so much more so when I make so many efforts to rejoin the team and contribute and I am still punished as if it is something in my control.

:( last minutes of a game, it crashed. Tried everything to get it to veriffy and resorted to a clean install. Even after rebooting, this is the result on the title screen...

There has to be something more I can provide to troubleshoot this...
