Chivalrous

Chivalrous

Story

Chivalrous is an enigmatic knight in full otherwordly armour who has wandered the planes searching for honourable combat. Nobody knows what he looks like, nor even what he is - there's horns on his armour so he could be Ixian, but maybe those are just decorative, and maybe he's something else. Or something more. None recognize any of it, so none can tell. He could be aeons old, or he could have manifested a week ago.

Unlike other heroes, Chivalrous didn't join the ritual for wealth, power, to relieve himself of some burden, and not even to win, no, Chivalrous cares about none of those, he only wants one thing: To fight powerful enemies, and try his hardest in doing so. He fights to win, but he doesn't fight for the win, he fights for the fight.
And six of the most powerful individuals fighting their hardest trying to achieve their greatest wish? That's a good fight.

If he does win he'll ask the Patron to bring him the strongest combatant found in all the planes. Of course, he could wish for more strength, but that's not honourable. Strength is obtained through fighting, not by getting it handed to you, you have to earn it.

Something very special will happen once Chivalrous has fought every strong opponent in all the planes. Something very special indeed. But noone else knows, he won't tell, and he doesn't care. He's just in it for honourable combat.

Aesthetics
Chivalrous wears full metal armour (not any metal you've ever seen) that's quite unlike any human armour you've ever seen, being covered in runes of a language noone recognizes as well as magical gemstones and repeating patterns of some circular celestial body split in two, which is also recurring in his abilities and animations. His helmet has two curling horns and eye holes that don't quite match the eyes of any known creature. He wields a large shield and sword at all times. No capes. Capes are impractical. Colour-scheme wise he's mainly very light primary colours (red/yellow/blue), but so muted they're all very close to white, and mixed as well as slightly animated.

Bad concept art:
chivalrous1.pngVoice lines and demeanor
Chivalrous voice has a bit of a muffled/metallic sound to it that makes it hard to determine whether the muffle is caused by the armour or by Chivalrous himself. He has a very positive demeanour overall and just loves to fight, being overjoyed with the opportunity. Only when he's alone without opponents does he show any negativity. Unlike other heroes, Chivalrous congratulates and compliments both opponents he kills, as well as opponents that kill him. He just keeps asking for more.

Heroes usually don't know Chivalrous, though some know of prophecies that seem related.

Some older heroes sometimes refer to Chivalrous as 'the harbinger'.

Weapon
Somewhat similar to Drifter: Chivalrous repeatedly swings his sword and launches single diagonal, slightly translucent 'cuts' of magic at his opponents. He reloads by holding his blade to the sky and calling opponents to come to him.

Abilities
1. Leaping Lunge. Chivalrous leaps in the direction of his crosshair. Casting a second time launches him in a lunge, in the direction of his crosshair, dealing spirit damage to enemies it connects with. Hitting world geometry with the lunge creates a fissure that damages enemies on hit and follows world geometry.

chivalrous2.png2. Improvised Arena. Chivalrous creates a large, flat, translucent disc under his feet. Chivalrous receives some buff while on the disc (probably firing rate?). Enemy heroes who leave (but not who enter) the disc receive some negative effect due to their dishonourable behaviour (maybe slow, or silence). Fissure can spread across the disc but decreases its duration. When the duration ends, the disc breaks by splitting in perfect halves.

3. Improved Parry.
Holding the parry button increases the duration of parry, and parry stops when released (not by too much, though). Chivalrous is immune to bullet damage while parrying. All damage parried, as well as damage received during a parry, reduces the cooldown of Leaping Lunge. However, if you take/ignore too much damage while parrying, the parry ends (with an animation of your shield breaking in two perfect halves), and your parry is on cooldown for a bit.

4. Ultimate: Destined Duel.
Split yourself and one targeted enemy hero into a physical half and a spiritual half. The physical half becomes a statue that does nothing and cannot be affected by anything. The spiritual half can be controlled, and can act, normally, but heroes' spiritual bodies can ONLY INTERACT with and be affected by other spiritual bodies (usually only Chivalrous and the target). Spiritual bodies are teal-greenish, semi-translucent, and have added visual effects. The duel ends once either hero kills the other, or when the duration ends. When the duel ends, the surviving duelists are returned to their physical bodies where they receive strong knockback (mostly so they're not in a super-disadvantageous position).

The caster (usually Chivalrous) receives buffs for the duration of the duel.

Sinclair using the duel for his own duel, or for a two-on-two, only makes Chivalrous happier.
