can't stop walking backwards

so when i start the game and go into the hideout, my character just walks backward and left forever. and if i hit escape to go into settings or something, the cursor is permanently dragging into the bottom left corner. wtf? so i can't even access the settings menu because there's no way to navigate with arrow keys. also i think the game is in controller mode or something because it says "hit B to exit" in the pause menu

Dumb question but: do you have any controllers plugged in? Bluetooth? Does Steam report that any controllers are plugged in?

it thinks my mouse is a controller. rog chakram x. i was able to play deadlock with it previously without issue. also if i change my mouse the issue persists.
