When you have multiple items in queue and enable the "automatically buy when near shop" then when it gets to an imbue item it will prompt you to select what ability to place it one. Once you select it will not buy the item and will disable the "automatically buy when near shop."
There is also no obvious way to pre-imbue an item to an ability in the autobuy system while in game. This used to be a thing but is now removed? This makes the experience significantly worse. You are now forced to set this up when making a build prior to the game. This means using other peoples builds will require you to manually change it in a copy you can edit.
