Fairly sure this was an intentional change but only getting assists when you're in range of an enemy dying is just silly.
I've just played a game where I missed out on at least two assists in lane because I either had to fall back and not die or had already died and got nothing for it, hardly encourages sensibly play, and I asssume means I misssed out on souls given I was then behind in lane.
Asssists need to be granted due to helping get the kill as well as distance to the enemy, the current systeem just isn't fair at all.
