Another Trapper Rework

I really miss him so I wanted to make up a rework for him. There are some ideas inspiration from SnickerPuffs's Trapper rework as well some concept NCS_artist posted in fan_art channel at Official Discord Server.

  • Civil Servant

His weapon now functions like a flamethrower, starting with on center that widens as it fires, spreading out to its maximum range. It can't headshot like Paige's gun but passes through targets.


  • Bottled Phantasmicide
Trapper throws his bottle, which leaves a trail on the ground as it travels. If I could make it a bit more complicated, I would add a mechanic where, if you or someone else shoots the bottle in the air, it explodes early and leaves a circular pool around it. Having others shoot it (allies, not enemies) is because Trapper himself can’t really shoot it with a flamethrower.

The trail left behind combos with his Spectral Spiders: they grow in size, gain extra seconds on their lifespan, deal extra damage scaled by how strong Bottled Phantasmicide is, and cause higher Infestation stacks on enemies.

  • Silktrap
Trapper’s bread and butter… Made it so you can select the starting and ending points of the thread, even use it as a tripwire while still holding it, letting you cross in front of enemies to secure the hit and basically be more aggressive. First tier upgrade lets you create three points of thread to spread out traps even more. And the last tier upgrade is just there to be annoying.

  • Pest Barrier
Trapper’s gun reloads by shooting a vastly different colored flame/spray that builds up barrier on allies and harms enemies. With 7.5 second all hitting the allies it should well provide a 300 Barrier health and since nature of his gun he can give barrier to multiple allies at once. It’s a bit lacking as it is in harming enemies side, so a tier upgrade could make it drain enemies Spirit Resistance.
(Truth be told i just looked at how some heroes from Marvel Rivals heal allies with their regular attacks, I was going to make it a passive ability that goes on cooldown once you max out barrier on ally.)

  • Crawling Plague
So this one to have Trapper still do his job even when he's fighting for his life.
Trapper releases more spiders but he also can collect more spiders to hit harder, you collect Spectral Spiders from golden statues, boxes, spirit urns and jungle creeps. Or they could just spawn around in sewers for Trapper to collect. It would be funny to have him collect limitless amount of spiders. They all would be used when ability is used. When this ability recharges it comes up with 5 spiders already stacked in, maybe it could passively gain more spiders so Trapper wouldnt have to be farming to get more spiders every time.

Spectral Spiders can climb walls to chase their targets and apply Infestation on them, each spider dealing a bit of spirit damage and more spiders explode on same target causes more slow applied on them. At maximum Infestation the target is stunned for few seconds.
Maybe it could do something other just slowing targets im not sure.


About the damage numbers i am not particularly good at balancing the numbers on them so take it with grain of salt.

I love the idea of his gun being more like a flamethrower. We don't really have a hero using a gun like that in deadlock so I think him having a flamethrower to set himself apart from other heroes would be awesome :O
 
Oooh!!!

I love the idea of giving him a flamethrower/fumigator as a weapon. I didn't touch his weapon in my rework (thanks for the shoutout btw!), but if I did I probably would've given him something similar. The interaction between his weapon and your Pest Barrier rework is a stroke of genius, as well. I never would have thought about that!

I'm also a big fan of the extra Phantasmicide and Silktrap functionality you added. It's that little extra nudge to turn those already-good abilities into absolutely great ones. Nice work!
