Activating this gives you a huge amount of Spirit Resist that gets reduced over the duration of five second. Ticks happen every 0.5 second.

+50% Max Spirit Resist
+10% Spirit Resist reduced per second
 
we already have shields on demand. Resistance on demand is viable but its gonna counter some heroes too heavily, probably we need something like metal skin but for spells.

isnt the whole point of items are for counterplaying spells? It seems bit of a weird argument to make. Otherwise metal skin countering haze would be an extreme problem but its not. There are currently no items for countering magic damage at the current state of the game, we need more of them now.
 
Does resist apply to shields? Seems awkward to have both on one item if not.
Not really, it would be weird if it was physical barrier and magic resist on the same item. Both spirit barrier and magic resist serve the same purpose, to reduce magic damage taken. They are awkwardly synergistic nevertheless they serve the same purpose.

Haze is extremely strong if you dont get skin of ethereal. So its just balance problem. Now imagine you get additional 20-50% since everyone getting armor and improved armors on higher lvl of players. Combine that with running lifestealing bruisers(haze is part of them) and you will get demigods that will require whole team setup to kill, and there would be multiple of those. Right now is a bad time to add more health and defence items.
 
Its not, and shields doesnt get replenished of fountain, only after time without damage checks out.
i replenishes over 60 second if im not mistaken, also veil walker instantly refreshes barrier, so you essentially can refill your shields every 17 second.

The problem is the green item slot is heavily contested with other more viable items

you do realize colossus gives 40% magic res and bullet res right? those kind of items already exists in the game.

Check topic then, colossus is a bare tier 4 item, via thing is question is built from t2 and offers pretty much the same, so it will be combined with armors pretty early. Which is bad.
