I have a thread on this issue as well. If you load into sandbox/explore map it should/does work perfectly fine, for some reason at the moment it seems that the build menu from the main menu is broken and not working as expected.

Are you using dx11 or vulkan for rendering ( Settings > Video [bottom left]) As you're running AMD you should be using Vulkan, I've actually found Vulkan can be more reliable avoiding crashes on Nvidia systems as well at times.
