Vindicta Improved Burst interaction

Happened to me while I was fighting pocket next to church.

Essentially whenever he was low hp , i quickscoped him with Assassinate and Pocket didn't die to Assassinate , instead died to improved burst and Did not give me any bonus souls for the kill

This looks to me like it's working as intended? Your shot didn't quite kill him. The number you see pop up includes the improved burst damage which is what actually killed him.
