Havent tried it myself in a real game but have seen it happen on a friend and I can recreate it on Abrams every time.
vindicta gets the Gun damage stack even if she doesnt kill with her ult, instead if she hits with her ult and then kills with somethign else she still gets the stack, it works even if someone else kills the target, my friend had 5 stack and 2 total kills the other day in a public match.
