Update Disabled (in Steam)

When I go to start a game (Play>Play Deadlock>Enter Queue), the game gives me a pop-up saying that the client it out of date and to update the game and restart.

However, the "blue ribbon" doesn't appear across the top of the screen as it normally does when an update is required. When I got to Steam, the Play button is there and it says the game cannot be updated.

To fix this, I reopen the game and then the blue ribbon will appear.

NOW, when I close the game, the Steam client allows me to update the game. This has been happening since the last major patch and is 100% repeatable (in my limited, maybe 5-6 times doing this). It finally annoyed me enough to post about it.
 
It happened again.

1. I try to queue up using "Play>Play Deadlock>Enter Queue" and I get this message. Note that the blue ribbon is not at the top.

2. Exiting the game and going to Steam Client shows the Play button is enabled and "UPDATE DISABLED" (not true).

3. Launching Deadlock again, the blue ribbon appears and NOW I have to Exit Deadlock again to get Steam to update.

4. The update happened too quickly (and I also have this game to have highest priority update in settings).

5. Now, I can play the game as normal.

Again, this isn't some game breaking bug, but it is very odd that the Steam Client and the Deadlock Client are so out of sync.
 
Seemed to have been fixed, but alas 'tis back.
