The year has ended and my friends still haven't gotten invites

I'm confused about the invites. Is there a requirement of some sort? I've been playing since early August and have sent invite to some friends, but there are like 4 or 5 of them who still haven't gotten any invites and the year has already ended. There was a friend who got his in less than 15 mins, while a good bunch still have nothing after 5 months. Is there a way to resend them?

Yeah, we've tried that already and no they don't know anybody else who plays the game.
