Text chat sometimes crashes both the game and my steam client on arch linux

For whatever reason the game just hard crashes sometimes when i type in chat. haven't been having this issue until recently, and it doesn't happen every time so im not sure what could be causing it

The same thing happens on Linux Mint as well. According to my friend, game temporarily freezes for everyone when this bug occurs.
