Steam overlay after unpause caused some fps issues

I press steam overlay to check some thing, the game starts and pauses, then while in the overlay the game unpauses. The game was receiving terrible stuttering until i left the overlay, then all characters played voiceline at once, while i lost about 20 FPS through the game. Decided to not restart i else i could potentially receive the "VAC AC Challenge time out"
I mention this because i have seen some reports mentioning about steam overlay causing some similar issues.
