Splitter - A Hero Concept From A Dream

Last month, during a bout of sickness, I had a fever dream about Deadlock. In this dream, Valve had added a new Hero to Hero Labs-- one that they were so proud of that they released an entire promotional video. It featured ability demonstrations, a short voice-acted animation, a dramatic retelling of their Fate's Tale, and several gameplay clips.

The dream was incredibly vivid... but it was almost entirely faded by the time I recovered. Luckily, I wrote down a few notes before then, so here's a rough approximation of the Hero being showcased in that dream.



Splitter
Divide and conquer to overpower your foes

Casey "Splitter" Smith may live the life of a comic book superhero, but the disaster that granted him his signature ability takes a massive toll on his health and sanity. Splitter is seeking the Patron's help in curing his condition, and to revive the other fallen victims of the experiment.



(1) Fission:
Create a duplicate of yourself nearby, fracturing your view into a splitscreen. Each duplicate is in perfect sync with the original. If a duplicate exists, but the "original" dies, the duplicate is considered the original. Gain a damage and Max Health penalty for each duplicate currently active, but each individual duplicate has their own weapon and health pool. Max of three duplicates, for 4 Splitters.

This ability is innate, like Viper's 'Slither'.

No Duplicate : 100% damage, 100% Max Health each
One Duplicate : 60% damage, 60% Max Health each (120% effective total)
Two Duplicates : 45% damage, 45% Max Health each (135% effective total)
Three Duplicates : 36.5% damage, 36.5% Max Health each (146% effective total)

(2) Refocus:
If duplicates exist, this ability grants temporary auto-aim with a slight fire rate increase. If no duplicates exist, no auto-aim is granted, but the fire rate increase is doubled.

(3) Derealization:
If duplicates exist, this ability spreads them further apart, giving a small chance of bullet evade. If no duplicates exist, the bullet evade chance is doubled.

(4) Chain Reaction:
If duplicates exist, all Fission will explode in a random sequence, dealing damage in a large radius and dying in the process, until only one remains. If no duplicates exist, this detonation deals no self-damage.



When the first Malestrom occurred, many jumped at the opportunity to incorporate the supernatural into the established sciences. Many, but not all. Some witnessed the incredible power of the occult and, for lack of a better descriptor, were unimpressed. Human ingenuity has already accomplished incredible things without the assistance of mysticism, they argued, and it should continue to do so without it. However, as magic-infused science began to progress at a breakneck speed, traditional experiments struggled to keep pace. Even with the generous backing of anti-supernatural investors, breakthroughs were few and far between. So the scientists pushed themselves, and the limits of safety, harder and harder...

...until something broke.

Some believe that "The Plutonium Pack" are little more than a team of super-powered heroes from a mediocre comic book. In truth, the quintet of heroes are loosely based on the real victims of a covered-up nuclear disaster. The victims gained incredible abilities from the accident: fantastic as they were, ultimately, fatal. A mere half-decade later, and only one of the victims still survives.

would be trippy to play and it all comes together very tightly in ultimate being very dramatic finish

though this hero would really need to deliver in fights as the main thing you do is position right and time the 2 and 3 to stay in then 4 to end the fight

Decided to flesh out this concept a bit more-- specifically, Splitter's abilities and how they'd function. Once again using Tryneus' Deadmock website to mock these up because it's rad as hell.

Fission

Similar to Sinclair's Spectral Assistant, a copy is summoned from a specific spot on the ground within a 10m radius around the original Splitter (or the oldest-still-living copy). To keep things simple, the Splitter that can use Fission is also the Splitter that can use active items, such as Decay or Knockdown. The only final note I have is that I'm likely moving this ability to Slot 3, which is the same slot as the only other innate ability in the game (Vyper's Slither).
Refocus

Refocus' non-Fissioned functionality is very similar to Trapper's Pest Barrier, admittedly. The Fissioned aim assist functions like so-- when an enemy player enters within the aim assist radius (35m at base, 50m at max level), the copy's view will automatically rotate to look at them. Once their crosshair is centered on the enemy, it will "lock on", and will perfectly match the movement of the enemy for the rest of the ability's duration. Before this point, the aim assist rotates slowly, giving players who enter the radius a chance to "outrun" and escape the aim assist.



Derealization

The "partial invisibility" is roughly equivalent to when a Haze using Smoke Bomb is 'revealed' to a nearby enemy. It's semi-transparent, but still very noticible. As for the "spread" effect when Fissioned-- all clones are teleported 6m away from the original Splitter (or the oldest-still-living copy), based on their angular offset from the original/oldest Splitter.

If my explanation is hard to understand (or the wording of it is wrong) I've included a simple diagram above.

No notes on this one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this ability should be self-explanatory. However, I will say that I was *this* close to renaming it "Thermonuclear Meltdown"
 
this is so sick the effect of splitting your screen then your ult undoing it in random order would be awesome let alone the extremely powerful mobility and focus commands you can do to clones
