There seems to be no vertical limit to the targeting of some abilities.
I noticed this in a game where I tried to save a teammate with cube but was a moment too late.
Instead, it changed target to a lash who was only barely on my screen:
It's easy to see this in testing. In the second image the giant circle showing the cast area is nowhere near the dummy, and yet I can still cast cube on him despite the fact that he isn't even on screen.
Additionally, it would be very useful to have some control over reducing the sensitivity of targeting in general.
For example in Overwatch, the sensitivity of Ana's ult can be tweaked to help prevent accidentally casting it on someone if they show up slightly closer on screen in the moment you cast. Ideally I'd like to have to actually aim AT the person I want to cast on, to prevent this from happening.
