[SOLVED] Game doesn't open through Steam; only through browsing files and directly opening the executable

When I try to open the game, it compiles shaders, and says it's launching, but then nothing happens, and it says "play" like I never pressed the button in the first place. The only way I can open the game is through the executable file. When the game is open, it works fine, but stutters horribly, to the point of being unplayable, probably because the shaders aren't compiling because I'm bypassing the entire process through opening with the executable and not using steam
Further Details:
I run CachyOS Linux, the game is set to use Proton Experimental, because no compatibility tools set and steam linux runtime 1.0 don't work either
I open the game using protontricks with the Deadlock proton prefix
The game is on a different drive from my steam install, and installing it on the same drive as steam doesn't fix it either
Verifying files does not fix the issue
Still stutters after compiling shaders in steam and then opening the exe
Restarting steam/computer does not work

Update: Reinstalling again fixed it. Why this didn't work before is beyond me, but I guess this isn't an issue anymore.
