Simply using the reporting feature should NOT ban you from ranked

I just got a 4 day ban by using the in-game reporting feature after sending reports for 2 people in my first ranked match of the day. Reporting is disabled, fair enough, sorry for using the feature I guess. But why is playing ranked disabled? What does that achieve exactly? I don't see it. I would understand if someone is being toxic, comm banned or abandoning. Generally disruptive in the game. It seems to me that all this achieves is discourage players from reporting, which creates a negative feedback loop. Why would you report a player if you are risking not being able to play the game for days? Even genuine reports will be avoided. Somehow CSGO doesn't ban players for sending reports, but Deadlock does.

I report players.. but only when needed and i do not do it often. Are you ALWAYS reporting people?
when people are trolling or just talk shit i report them and i get banned for that im not saying i report people every game but from now i refuse to do that cuz every report will ban me xd, whats the point of that button if u get banned for that even when u report the people that should get banned, also banning people from ranked games only for reports ban is hilarious

I report when I think its necessary, and no, not everyone, every game. Everyone has different tolerance and opinion. Anyway, its beyond the point as reporting has no negative impact on the game, so it shouldn't block playing. All I know is that I will never use the report again, because I much rather play the game. There is visible only a downside to reporting, and no visible upside. All the other categories make sense, except maybe pausing. CSGO has no problem like this. It's silly.

exactly

I kind of agree with this. I like to err on the safe side against cheaters so if I'm suspicious I like to send a report with a comment like "Might be using aimbot, please check".

However I am nervous to do this sometimes because I have no idea what is considered to be too much reporting to get punished. And there's no feedback if your reports were legitamte or not, it would be nice to know

It's "Valve trying to do stuff in their own way but making some stupid abomination in the process" all over again. You can see it in their games almost all the time.

Btw, before any Einsteins come here and misunderstand everything, I only meant this "Banned for reporting" thing. I actually enjoy the game (somewhat).

Just don't use report button anymore, I certainly won't, fuck that.

Yeah, had this happen to me too, I know everyone always says this but I was honestly only reporting properly in the categories listed and I got banned for it for 4 days? So whats the point of having the report feature and categories in the game if you get banned for using it? If you dont want people making reports remove the function? Seems counter productive to me, I know I wont be using it again as it just punishes me. Guess you can be racist in chat as much as you like but god forbid someone reports it.

Also the fact that there seems to be zero appeal function is absolutely insane to me.

That is not a good approach. You should only report them when it's clear that they are cheating. If it's not obvious during the match, you can always report them after watching the replay, which gives you a good idea of whether they are cheating or not. "Might be cheating" is a bad report that makes things worse, not better.

that's not my job. Sure, I'll check the replay and if it's super obvious I'll report it. But if I have suspicions still and it's not super obvious I'll still report it. I'm reporting it for investigation. I'm not the investigator.

I suppose. Hopefully they then have a filter to just trash such reports automatically, sadly it's likely they don't have that process properly set up, though some studios have started realizing that people who report like that need to be ignored more often than not. The report feature is there for when they are cheating, not when they might be cheating. Reporting any time it even seems suspicious is a godsend to cheaters, because it just floods the reporting queue, ensuring that they have a longer time they can cheat without fear of repercussions.

That said if you do get a ban from playing ranked after such reporting habits then I'd say that's probably intentional as well and not really much of a downside.

Apparently the report function in this game is not actually for reporting but for catching regular players unawares and giving them bans for using it. Great bit of meta game design.

From what I've read, modern aim bots can be very hard to detect? Like, they can be toggled on & off whenever and have programmed behavior to not be completely obvious while still providing a large advantage.

What you're suggesting here is that style of aimbot should never be reported and only the most blatant cartoon cheating should be reported?

i think the whole current system behind banning someone is not very well thought of by now, to be fair the game is still in an early state but it seems like the only "rule" that counts for someone getting banned are thresholds everywhere, whether getting reported or reporting someone. that does not tell anything about the quality of reports and could, if by now just everyone reports everyone every game just break it on the spot, which doesn't seem like something that should be possible. got to say that is speculation and i don't know what actually examines who to ban

edit: i don't think its a bad idea of punishing false reports if that happens in large numbers, but atm that doesn't seem to work too good

From how its been explained to me elsewhere, its all automated and if you report someone for being racist in chat but no-one else in the match does, it flags it as a false report.

Yeah this system absolutely sucks.

I got first report banned for reporting unbalanced matches through the matchmaking issue report option. Okay fine, if I used that too often then I get being banned for a bit. Since the ban expired, I literally haven't use the report function at all, until I got a match where someone left the match 5 minutes into a Ranked set. Being banned from playing ranked for 4 days now because I had 1 legitimate report is so stupid. They need to at least remove the ranked restriction.

Its so stupid because they literally have a post up asking for more info on matchmaking, but if you use the in game function to tell them about bad matchmaking they ban you for four days. Honestly, in game reporting just seems like a complete noob trap, use it for its intended purpose and it just punishes you.
