Rembrandt

“Cursed from birth such that every word he uttered would sunder himself and others, Lionel Rembrandt sought for years for ways to undo or mitigate it, learning all manner of magicks, to no avail. Working mutely did not wholly ruin him, however, as fortune would have that he was good looking and had a flair for the dramatic (and a penchant for hexing those who might work against him), and so took the film industry by storm. But as time wore on, technology evolves, and with the advent of “talking pictures” Lionel’s muteness became a handicap once more. Unsatisfied with the thing he had worked hard for being taken, Rembrandt set’s out to finally rid himself of his burden, once and for all.”

Aesthetically, the character would lean more towards a sort of Gene Kelly/Marlon Brando style “movie star” type, nice suit and all, somewhat like a younger, less bulky Raven. A *little* sleazy maybe, maybe a bit 2-faced. No gun per se, but a red glow on the hands for a weapon instead, potentially with some runes on the back of his hands maybe. All of his abilities besides ult would have a small measure of like, orchestral accompaniment instead of voice lines. I suppose he would have to whistle or snap his fingers to “talk”. Maybe some incorporation of ASL of sorts, as part of animations? All of the effects are a sort of red lightning/fire type might, semi-malevolent ish. This is a person not afraid of exploring whatever option they could to amend their situation, willing to take drastic measures to ensure success, and so has learned some darker magicks.

Kit

Gun - “Onomatopoeia”, very slow firing small red lightning bolts out of his hands. Short range, ends maybe about the same distance as Drifters, maybe a little closer. No falloff. Not a shotgun but single target.

Ability 1 - “Ruin” A small aoe highish damage nuke. Aoe targeted like Viscous punch, explodes with a burst of damage after a brief delay. (Maybe can be cast on walls like viscous punch too?) Easy to dodge, short cooldown. Upgrades could cause it to mini-stun when at max rank, or explode a second time after a delay. Visually is like a red rune appearing then detonating into lightning.

Ability 2 - “Stagnate Hex” A fired projectile attack, stopping on first enemy hit. Does a small amount of damage, and causes the enemy to be slowed a small amount and lose a small amount of resistances. Stacks infinitely, short cooldown. Upgrades could include the hex also applying a debuff that allows allies to spirit lifesteal off of them.

Ability 3 - “Inspiration” Passively build up stacks every time you use the same ability. (Successfully hit an ability?) When you use a different ability, consume all the stacks to amplify the effects of the ability: Ruin gains increased damage per stack, Stagnate Hex would apply multiple stacks of the debuff per stack, and Sunder would do more stuff. Max stacks default to 5. Active would be to instantly gain max stacks of Inspiration. Upgrades could be that you gain stamina and refresh your air dash/jump counter on cast, increase movespeed per stack of inspiration, maybe health regen, or increased max stacks.

Ult - “Sunder” Target an enemy hero. Consume all Inspiration stacks and take %max hp damage per stack, and do the damage you took to the enemy hero as true damage. The self damage cannot kill you. Killing an enemy hero with this ability gives increased max hp. Upgrades could include making it AoE around the targeted hero, or something like reducing its cooldown for every stack of Inspiration you use.

The intention behind this hero is a tankier burst mage, closer to a tanky talon rather than a super durable Geist. Less “true” sustain, greater damage potential but the need to both manage stacks and also care about your own hp as you don’t have any true escape. Much closer range than talon too. Consecutive uses of the same ability (reducing resistances before a very high damage burst with a hard to hit Ruin, or poking with Ruin before hitting a massive slow and debuff, or either before a chunky ult) causing some level of planning to be needed, and adding a small fun “minigame” to the hero with stack management.
