Penalty for Leaving Sandbox

I was messing around in the sandbox today and it wouldn't let me leave without taking a penalty. I wasn't queued for or in a match. Tried changing heroes and no success. Screenshot attached. Hope it didn't actually apply a penalty :/

Same issue for me with different variables.
I was waiting for a match, then the server went offline or I lost connection to the server, not too sure. I was mucking around with Holliday in sandbox, I wonder if it had something to do with using a labs hero?
It's happened a few times now so I have a stack of low-priority penalties.
I have no screenshots. Will provide in the future.

Workaround: Don't abandon, but rather exit the game. When you relaunch you'll be able to join the real game
