Newest update(s?) broke ability upgrade selection using mouse

EDIT: It was brought to my attention this change was made intentionally as noted as a side note in the changelog. It's a bad change, to the point where, as is evidenced by this post, I legitimately thought it was a bug. Please revert! Upgrading abilities exclusively via keys is way more clunky and sucks to use.

Title explains the whole thing. After the most recent update, or perhaps 2 updates if there were multiple in one day, not sure if that was just Steam being dumb, I can no longer upgrade my abilities using Alt + Mouse. In fact my cursor doesnt even appear.

This bug's made even weirder by the fact that it worked properly once during the match i just played, but earlier (and later) in that same match, and in previous match today, I was unable to use my mouse for abilities.
Couldnt even hover over them for descriptions, cursor just wouldnt show up.
Had to upgrade abilities using Alt + [Their number], which is a LOT more inconvenient to do on the fly while moving.

This image is of a previous match, not the one i just finished.
Note how i have the ability upgrade menu up but my cursor is nowhere to be seen. It worked fine previously.
It's obviously not visible at all but i was TRYING to hover over his 3, the passive, but since there's no cursor even that wasnt working

Yeah this was a purposeful change

I was adapted to using Alt + Click as it was part of the tutorial, so I'm now having to either use the combination of keys, or hold Tab to be able to click agian.

I understand the change, however, as I presume players that prefer to use the key combinations were likely complaining about the fact that holding down Alt to upgrade an ability was bringing up the cursor, so you lose the ability to free aim.

One solution to the problem might be for Valve to make a setting so players can set a preference as to whether they want the cursor to show when holding down Alt or not.

It's a great change and you'll get used to pressing shift instead of alt after a couple of matches.
The change makes Alt functionally useless compared to Tab. before there were different uses, now with what they've taken away from Alt, it serves basically no purpose to most players outside basic ability upgrading, which is worse now. Having Tab be the only screen for handling users/scorebord stuff, minimap stuff, and the only method of viewing skill details, as well as upgrading them, is a worthless change that makes one of them functionally useless and the other overloaded with info.

Also "you'll get used to pressing shift" Firstly, condescending. Secondly, I dont want to have to press 2 keys to upgrade a skill, period. With the old functionality i pressed one key and clicked the skill with my mouse, making it far easier to keep moving around.

Also the "press shift" version doesnt show the extra skill info like it did when you could hover over with your mouse, which is useful to see if you're needing to decide which skill to upgrade, especially if you're still learning a character.

The shift option isn't an equivalent replacement, flat out. It's a good addition to have in the game, but it does not serve the same purpose as the now-removed functionality.

Sorry I wrote shift but I meant tab obviously.

> i pressed one key and clicked the skill with my mouse

You literally still do this with tab and click instead of alt and click.

> Also the "press shift" version doesnt show the extra skill info

It does, it's press tab
