magician spectral assistant targeting

I often have trouble with the spectral assistant,

it seems that he targets where you are looking, however sometimes he doesnt target the enemy hero i am looking at. Same with neutral camps.

at times i lose alot of value because although im hitting my shots with my gun, my spectral assistant is missing.
