I played one game of Magician so my opinion might not be as valid as others. but I seem him as a weapon based hero over spirit based
but this is my opinion on changes that would make him a little more unique.
Primary Fire/Weapon: I much rather see him using a weapon similar to Infernus (just his hand) he shoots cards for crying out loud, he can throw the cards and a reload can be a shuffling a new deck or pulling a new deck out of thin air!
And to add to his "magician set" is giving an ability a passive (probably Ability 1, as I will say in a second) that there is a chance he pulls YOUR CARD, a simple troupe, and it does extra damage, or maybe an ace for there's 4 chances to proc his passive...but I understand how a community feels about randomness in a character.
I would also change his Max ammo to 52 (you know a deck of card) and if you get more ammo with something like Basic Mag it increases the chances of pulling "YOUR CARD"
Ability 1, Vexing Bolt: I have no issue with it, its a bit lack luster but I find it balanced and well made for the character. I feel it doesn't really add anything unique for the Hero though. I think it would be great to be replaced or have a passive added to it as I mentioned above.
Ability 2, Spectral Assistant: I have zero complaints with this ability it gives the hero a very unique ability that plays to the concept of who he is suppose to me, I do believe it should have a line indication on where it is looking so when you fire you have an idea on where it is going to show for better gameplay.
Ability 3, Rabbit Hex: I only seem them turn in to frogs...regardless again its breaths to the character and it a great concept but in practice I am not a fan of it. I find it difficult to move while the "rabbit" and I find it hard to show the enemy as one (I could also have awful aim). I just wanted to see others opinions on this mostly
Ability 4, Ult: I believe Paradox's ult is just a place holder here. My suggestion would be an ability that can target you and ally or an enemy. and give an effect like Pocket's Enchanter's Satchel. The target is put into one of those saw cutting box they can not move or take damage from an outside source, they heal if they are on ally or yourself, and take damage if an enemy. excluding outside damage on both sides can prevent trolling and make it less over powered. but can lead to issues if interrupting something like Haze ult
