Linux / Deadlock low fps only when interaction menus aren't open

For some reason I'm getting horrible fps specifically when I'm not interacting with menus. see the video bellow for an example


Using sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=2147483642D else the game would crash while loading the map

update: did a fresh install using pop OS and the same thing happens, tho at least in pop os I get 20 fps instead of 8, still. while looking at the menu the game runs at 70+ fps
