I'm using Gentoo Linux and Steam is installed via flatpak. Proton Experimental is used for the game, as set by Valve. I didn't try other Proton versions/branches. Both vulkan (via game command setting) and directx crash.

Running into what seems to be the same issue (also on Gentoo Linux with Steam via flatpak). Looking at journalctl shows that an assert inside of Wine is tripped:
Code:
Aug 14 12:52:07 selenium steam[5899]: t8.exe: ../src-wine/dlls/ntdll/unix/virtual.c:1907: create_view: Assertion `!((UINT_PTR)base & page_mask)' failed.

I have the same GPU (CPU is ryzen 7600) and it works fine for me on arch. I used to have consisted crashes joining games on CS2 when i didnt have all the wine libraries installed from the link bellow. My wild guess is you're missing some libraries/packages. On arch its pretty simple but on gentoo your mileage may wary. I'm out of my depth there.

I've tried the following command as suggested in an earlier thread about this crash and it seems to have fixed it for me:
Code:
sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=2147483642

If I had to guess, the Arch kernel has a higher default max map count?

Ah yes that might be the case. Arch did increase their map count in april to 1048576. The one you have seems to be a bit extreme tho and might cause other unknown issues. I would suggest trying it with a lower value 1st to see if that's enough.

I checked the rough number of mappings (via wc -l /proc/pid/maps) and it seems to be around 44k in the main menu and around 78k in game, while the default limit (without a patch like Arch has) is 65530.

Perhaps I have a similar problem, but I am using Debian and Steam appears to be installed via apt:
REDACTED@Enki ~> dpkg -l | grep steam
Code:
ii steam-launcher 1:1.0.0.79 all Launcher for the Steam software distribution service
ii steam-libs-amd64 1:1.0.0.79 amd64 Steam libraries metapackage
ii steam-libs-i386:i386 1:1.0.0.79 i386 Steam libraries metapackage

CPU is slightly different but also Ryzen 7, GPU is also AMD but not exactly the same either

This resolved my issue, thanks.

Fixed it for me! (ubuntu 22.04)
