Lash - Ground strike to be counted as a melee for item effects

Lash ground strike scaling is pretty weak, and its damage in general is heavily dependant on items like improved burst. Letting it scale off melee damage would allow a lot more items into Lash’s kit and allow it to scale a lot more effectively with a lot of different items.

Even if it doesn’t scale off melee damage in any way, being able to apply effects like life strike and spirit snatch would give Lash some new items to play around.
 
lash isnt really a melee character hes more of a mage character who wants to be in the air but wants to flex into an attack damage carry or tank later in the game

Well yeah, giving him better access to bruiser items would open that door for him to hybridize better into a damage carry or tank

building weapon items increases his melee damage and you naturally get in close with your abilities try leveraging that

if anything the one ability on lash where i would want to have his melee damage added is grapple, like what if you did a quick melee when you grappled from a certain range or when you launch enemies with the death slam after grabbing them but before they hit the ground

I like the idea but it would be less practical than on slam or flog. Grapple is sort of meant to just be a utility, if it did melee damage you’d only ever land one or two melee procs a fight.
 
Lash's scaling is already very well tuned with several different ways to itemize. Ground strike can deal 1k + spirit damage if you build for it and get a good drop. Changing it to scale from melee damage would be a pretty significant nerf. I could see experimenting with the 5 point upgrade perk though to go from "improved scaling" to "now deals damage equivalent to a light melee and counts as a melee attack" alongside a slightly weaker version of the current scaling buff, maybe, but Lash's spirit item slots are so contested and all it would do is force you to buy Spirit Strike every game.

I mean the base stomp itself actually doesn’t. The base initial stomp damage is rather low, more than half the damage you’ll ever get out of the move is through the per-meter scaling at any point in a match, changing that initial stomp to scale off melee instead would not be that harsh a nerf, especially if you can start applying melee items.

Also if that’s a problem, you can always dare to let it scale off both at reduced rates. It also doesn’t necessarily need to become a melee itself, just add an effect where it applies melee effects. Other MOBAs do it, where abilities can apply “on hit” effects
 
You think ground smash doesnt scale well? Maybe you're not high enough in the air when you cast it idk. I blow up teams with lash so idk.

The per-meter scaling is fine, the base damage regardless of meter scaling sucks. Also just in general lash is gonna be a bit behind most other heroes, even when focused for damage, this change would give him a bit more presence if these items were built.

Not every hero is a damage dealer. Why discuss lash when kevlin exists... Lash is one of the most well balanced heroes in the game. If you offer him more and more damage he will just team ult and have the damage to secure the entire group himself. Makes no sense. His damage is fine.

And his build is one note. They can always reduce/remove the spirit scaling on the stomps base damage as a trade, it opens more options for lash to build, because balanced as we are build diversity isn’t something we have much of.
