Kelvin has been the victim of numerous nerfs at the hands of the devs who seem to hate our devilishly handsome arctic explorer. We in the Deadlock Discord Kelvin community have determined that Kelvin needs a rework, and we think that there could be a simple solution to making his entire kit work more synergistically and more interesting.
1. Kelvin's Gun & Ice Beam
Kelvin's gun is a high damage, accurate, but slow weapon. Many forum posters have disparaged his main weapon as being too difficult to secure with. This can be remedied by providing kelvin with a new Alt-Fire: his ice beam. The ice beam as it currently is, is too weak to be an ability by itself, so we think that the beam would be better utilised as an alt fire. It could be reworked into being something similar to Bebop's laser, or turned into a slower projectile-based slush sprayer. This would provide kelvin with better close-range secure as well as better close range & brawly capabilities for teamfights and dome fights. But if we put his 3 ability on his alt-fire, what happens to the slot?
2. New Kelvin 3rd Ability: Frostbite (Passive)
Similar to Infernus' Afterburn passive, Kelvin's new Frostbite ability will be a passive that stacks through weapon damage (both left & right click). The main idea is to provide Kelvin with a passive that acts as the other side of a coin to Infernus' passive which deals damage, whereas this will deal CC. This passive would also replace the slow that comes from his Grenade.
Ability Description: Your bullets and ice beam (alt fire) build up to apply a freezing effect on enemies. Kelvin’s weapon damage and abilities will refresh the duration.
Effect:
2m/s ramping slow (0.6x spirit scaling)
2s slow duration
11% buildup per bullet
21% buildup per headshot
6 second build-up decay time
Upgrades:
Tier 1: Movement slow increased by 1 m/s
Tier 2: + 15% fire rate reduction
Tier 3: +2s freeze duration
Please let me know what you think of the changes suggested, Kelvin needs some major reworks to his kit for him to become more viable. The ice dome & ice path are good abilities with lots of utility late game, but Kelvin is massively held back by lack of impact in early to mid teamfights, as well as during the laning stage.
