At the moment, barriers are hardly used in the endgame due to their inferiority to armor. In most builds where they are included, they are played mostly for fire damage/spirit power in the early game. I have a suggestion on how to make barriers overall better:
- Improved barriers (4250 souls): They would have 400-600 defense, +40 damage, +10 fire rate for combat barriers, and +30 spirit power, with 10% less cooldown time for spirit barriers.
- Item to replenish barriers: Currently, there is only one item that restores barriers quickly—the Veilwalker. Without barriers, players are unwilling to engage in fights and just wait for them to restore. A Barrier Replenishment item (1250 souls) would let you restore barriers with a 10-25 second reduction in cooldown.
- To make the current barriers in the early game less toxic (as they basically give players a 3000 souls item buff), their characteristics should be nerfed. Either reduce defense without affecting the damage increase, or apply a small damage nerf.
