ILLES THE MUSICIAN : Born in the streets, The Musician learned to survive by playing for criminal gangs, tuning his guitar between gunfights. Over time, he discovered he could turn sound into pure weaponry.

Each shot from the weapon appears as a musical note

1. The King


Fires a sound wave from his guitar, making it roar. Enemies hit become dizzy as if drunken.


2. Rebellion


Slams his guitar on the ground, damaging nearby enemies and granting himself Frenzy, increasing movement speed and fire rate.


3. Tempo Boost


Places an amplifier on the ground that increases all damage you deal while inside its range.


4. Ready to Rock?


Puts the enemy hero into a trance, forcing them to play a short WASD rhythm minigame. If they fail the pattern, they take heavy damage.

I was going to make my own thread on a similar hero, but been running into creative block when making a Musician hero, maybe it's because im not a musician myself but surrounded by them via family and friends. I will just post it here since you have something close to what I had in mind.

This will be a very over the top hero

I was trying to work around the idea of the "Troubadour", which I dont know how far Valve themselves have decided to develop. The hero doesn't have to be the Troubadour but a whole new musician too.

I don't know how crazy it is to add this type of mechanics as I personally been trying to juggle good ideas but cannot figure out how to make it fun.. maybe it wont work or nothing new has crossed my mind. But the focus is Free Form, Performance and Chivalry 2's instruments that you pick up... music in the heart of battle.. gun fight moba no less!

anyone can load a midi program.. but in a moba? This hero could be a high skill ceiling hero for it's similarity in creating music with their instrument, completely avoiding a Rock Band type of character. i think a person who actually knows music can express while also fight.. but that is the problem i run into, how to make them fight while playing and making it fun

Having them stand around landing big stuns like Naga's Song of the Siren would be lame. A giant aoe with damage per second.. A giant aoe healing over time.. these seem already done and not new but obviously do fit a "musician" hero.. its quite difficult to come up with something new and interesting without it being "standard"

Storing music and releasing it comes to mind.. but im being mindful of "play" being both something fun to do and a useful thing to do apm wise. there are many ideas but i dont think i will come up with any abilities in this post

Battle Guitar Death Stranding 2

Your Gun reminded me of the Battle Guitar in death stranding 2 which I totally forgot about, flying over my head. I wont go into spoilers but this unique type of weapon can help flesh the heroes abilities and make the hero possibly fun.. I will make a quick layout with not too much of a deep dive into abilities.

Fire / Play*

I took Haze's gun, allowing this hero to have auto-fire and lots of ammo, which should help fit the hero. Decided to keep the ammo scale and not use Wraith's gun/bullets/etc. Keeping the hero a "im fighting YOU" and not a hard support hero who can bounce between roles.

Holding (or toggled by clicking) RMB enters play mode, replacing your 1 2 3 4 abilities with keys/notes/chords, holding alt also changes to more keys/notes/chords

You can shoot, move, jump, dash, melee, etc during Play. Your abilities are just replaced.

8 notes, keys or chords that allow you to express music that can be heard all around. This is where I find myself at a wall since I have no knowledge in music or instruments. "is this a realistic amount of buttons to play music?"

I am unsure of the notes but I wanted to introduce some hero that could play music where the player can still express themselves.

Though, I would avoid being able to deal damage from "play", maybe some how enhance things like resistances but difficulty in songs should NOT determine the power or scale of things. Which is why im trying to avoid making play an actual ability for damage, buffs or anything, just simply to play music.

but if some one can figure out how to make it work, by all means! im stuck in a box!

People can think up abilities since that is left open while they can play whatever song they like. But I also see the issues with play some what.. Keeping it a hero gun and "instrument" idea post to let other people's imagination run. maybe another time.

Thoughts and finishes

Time in FFXIV allowed me to have fun wanting to learn instruments in real life. Helping me understand hearing and playing even at a toddler level! We can spend hours playing games, but we can also learn stuff from and in them. Having a character who can play an instrument as if it was real life can become inspired to create music themselves. This character will allow music veterans to play songs (possibly) and new players to get into learning something. even if its just 8 notes. while still having deadlock's four abilities to mess around with.

a very over the top and weird idea for a hero.. but it was a fun thought and idea

It is quite a difficult idea to come up with for a moba hero. I like some of the abilities already made, specifically dropping and amp.. possibly playing inside does something.. but i think a lot of work can be fleshed out. With the idea of being able to express themselves freely without it being a ultimate helps change the character, keeping the abilities open to think about.

Originally I was going to use Hunting Horn as part of the inspiration, combining notes.. then I remembered I just use that weapon as a a LONG Hammer (Monster Hunter Frontier Hammers were LONG AF)
