Lore
That would be his description. When the First Maelstrom first introduced the supernatural to the mortal world, the dying crowns of Europe and the rising barons of Wall Street both spied the same thing in the Astral Gates: The Opportunity of a Lifetime.
Where the United States rose to the opportunity for new capital, the ailing empires of the Old Continent seeked to expand their bloat and heralded horrors of war unlike any prior. From one of these many empires hailed one Friedrich Lehmann, seasoned paratrooper and combat medic who would have heroically died and be entombed with honors.
Were it not for one Maximillian Fairfax.
Sold posthumously to Eldritch Tactical Solutions and summoned in a Fairfax laboratory, Soul-powered Combat Unit Jäger (Serial Number 2339) has served the interests of those who could afford to invest into Paranormal Military Companies to help in enforcing them. For decades, Jäger has traveled from the mountains of Peking and the Jungles of South America to the Deserts of the Sahara and the fields of North Ixia. A deathless fighter, an unstoppable killer. A tormented monster.
And so, when news of an eclipse looming over New York City reached the ears of Maximillian Fairfax as visions of a second Maelstorm began to form on top of the accursed spire of the Empire State, both him and Jäger spied the same thing in those twisting eldritch ripples and mystical strokes of lightning: The Opportunity of a Lifetime.
Now, the more easy-to-digest lore.
TLDR: Jäger was brought back to the world of the living against his will by Fairfax and, to put it simply, he wants to give Fairfax a big middle finger by killing himself through the Patron's wish, thus denying Fairfax his best enforcer (at least, Jäger considers himself as such).
Why not just shut himself down or allow himself to be captured/destroyed? Fairfax can always make another robotic shell to put "his property" into, so its not like Jäger hasn't tried.
If you want an ever simpler explanation, it's a John Wick plot without the dead wife.
(or is it?)
Design

Art by me. I know. Not precisely the best. Not an artist. Yes, I am keeping the legs undone for my sake.
But yeah, I think the through-line of their design is obvious. Yes, part of why I'm designing him this way is to pretty much crash a car into the big war question that the Deadlock lore is seemingly trying to avoid while also giving my own proposal on how THAT topic could be best addressed (IN MY MODEST OPINION).
Since Jäger, like Dynamo, would be a soul trapped in a man-made body, he'd have the same type of....(i'll call it this out of convenience) "soul fishbowl" head the Professor has. However, unlike Dynamo's yellow, his would be red since I believe I would be pretty pissed if I got pulled out of the afterlife against my wishes to go be some corpo's hitman.
Additionally, since Jäger's body is mass-produced by Eldritch Tactical, his robotic parts would be made of tin instead of Dynamo's iron and would also have scratches and half turned nuts and bolts and such. Additionally, having been in service for a while and having been a soldier prior to being "returned to service", his coat would be dirty and have patches/visible stitches and have old, ragged medals hanging off his chest. Why didn't i draw those? Because drawing with my mouse don't allow for that type of precision.

Abilities
1. Nine Banger / First Aid
Nine Banger and First Aid would be two abilities that both take your first ability slot but you can only use one at a time (I will explain why later).Nine Banger is a Held Cast ability that throws a stun bomb that explodes on impact with a 3.5m radius (4.5 meters if allowed to fully charge). It would have a 30s cooldown and a charge time of 2 seconds. Heroes hit by the Nine Banger would be receive -20% move speed if hit by the uncharged ability and get stunned for 1.5 seconds if hit by the fully charged ability.
T1 Upgrade for Nine Banger would increase the slow from -20% move speed to -40%. T2 would lower the cooldown by 30%, making it 20 seconds. T3 would instead swap the uncharged hit effect to 1.5s of stun and then have the bomb apply 1 second of time slow to those hit by a fully charged Nine Banger.
First Aid, on the other hand, would allow you to instantly throw a "First Aid Beacon" at your closest ally, which would heal them by 25hp/sec. It would have a cooldown of 30 seconds. Can not self-cast.
T1 Upgrade for First Aid would lower the cooldown from 30 to 20 seconds and grant +40% Bullet Resist.
T2 Upgrade for First Aid would allow the First Aid Beacon to also heal those within a 3 meter radius
T3 Upgrade would allow First Aid Beacon to cleanse 1 random, non-ult debuff once per hero healed.
2. Collar Grab
Collar Grab would have Jäger lunge forwards to grab an enemy and shoulder bash them to push them up to 10 meters away in the direction you're looking at, dealing heavy melee damage. If the enemy is pushed into a wall, applies bonus melee damage and 0.5s of stun. However, this ability can be parried without Counterspell (because, obviously, its just Jäger bashing you instead of a shotgun blast to your face like Venator.) Would have a 45s cooldown.T1 Upgrade allows the cooldown to be cut down by 20s if you successfully apply stun.
T2 Upgrade cuts the base cooldown by 5 seconds flat, making it 40s (20 if you knock someone into a wall)
T3 Upgrade allows you to lock onto the closest enemy in front of you.
3. Bayonet Charge
Bayonet Charge would have you fix a bayonet on the barrel of your currently equipped weapon. Once activated, your next heavy melee will see you lunge forward at DOUBLE the normal base lunge speed and half the windup but at the cost of using 2 stamina bars.It would have a 100s cooldown but you would deal +35% bonus melee damage on top of the melee damage you already deal AND would apply a bleed onto enemies hit that would tick for 1.5% max hp per sec (scales with spirit at x0.006))
Using this for Light melees would instead only make your light melee build up stacks that then apply the bleed, with the Bayonet effect going away once the bleed is applied successfully. The trade off is obviously that your light melee would still deal bonus melee damage and you'd waste no stamina.
T1 Upgrade would increase the base tick damage of the bleed from 1.5% to 1.65%.
T2 Upgrade would make the Bayonet Charge Heavy Melee attack Unstoppable, meaning you can't get parried out of Heavy Melee.
T3 Upgrade would make it so that, if you kill an enemy hero with your Bayonet Heavy Melee OR a hero affected by the Bayonet's bleed dies because of the bleed/nets you an assist, you get a cooldown reduction. A kill will cut the cooldown by half, while an assist will only slash 25% of the cooldown off.
4. Retooling
And for Jäger's ultimate....He doesn't have one*.Instead, he can switch between two different primaries AND first abilities.
His default weapon would be a sawn off trench gun (Name: Foxhole Curse), shooting 6 pellets with 3.05 (+0.25 per boon) Bullet Damage at 1.75 Bullets per Second. Bullet velocity would be 600 m/s
Reload time would be 0.25 (plus a 0.35 second delay), but the shotgun would be loaded shot-by-shot. Foxhole Curse can hold up to 6 shots base. However, Foxhole Curse would be semi-automatic, since Jäger would be slam-firing it by default.
While Jäger is using Foxhole Curse, Jäger can only use Nine Banger and First Aid is disabled.
Foxhole Curse's falloff ranges are from 19.5 meters (min) to 42 meters (max)
Jäger's Alternate weapon would be a Bolt Action rifle (Name: Patient Weep), instead shooting only 1 bullet but dealing 55 Bullet Damage (+0.4 per boon) but shooting at 1 bullet per second. Bullet velocity would be 900 m/s.
Reload time would be 2.45 seconds if empty and the rifle would hold 5 rounds base. However, reloading with a partial magazine instead reloads it round by round at 0.3 seconds (plus a 0.5 second delay).
While using Patient Weep, Jäger can only use First Aid and Nine Banger is disabled.
Patient Weep's falloff ranges are 30 meters (min) to 70 meters (max)
The time to switch between weapons is 2.5 seconds. However, using this swap does not trigger any on-cast effects or items, meaning that you can't spam switch to gain extra barrier/Spirit Power with Diviner's. Additionally, you would be unable to buy Lightning Scroll, since...this "ultimate" wouldn't deal any damage so it would be a waste. However, you can imbue it with Quicksilver Reload/Mercurial Magnum and Surge of Power (tho...why would you do this?). Since this ability would have no cooldown (and also because it would be useless to imbue these onto it), it would be barred from being imbued with Echo Shard, Mystic Expansion, Compress Cooldown, Duration Extender and Mystic Reverb.
This ability would have no cooldown, instead acting as a sort of "active passive". The upgrades for this ability, thus, would instead grant passive buffs to Jäger but also progressively cut down the swap time from 2.5s base to 1s at max upgrade.
T1 Upgrade: Reduces weapon swap time by 0.5 seconds. +10% extra bullet resist.
T2 Upgrade: Reduces weapon swap time by 0.5 seconds. +10% extra spirit resist.
T3 Upgrade: Reduces weapon swap time by 0.5 seconds. Headshots with Patient Weep deal extra damage the farther you are from a target.

Mainly, because I just want to geek off at him.Patrons:
