A "hero" from the REAL world who uses modern tech and realistic weapons, instead of having different abilities, using your four "abilities" is really just switching between your weapons.
Sure, it's possible he could have his modern weapons upgraded with some magic, but I think the concept of someone from our world, who could make modern references that nobody will understand, and would be somehow be both completely out of place and fit right in all at once.
No, he doesn't need to be self aware like he's in a videogame, just that he's been brought to this world and plans to fight his way out, no matter how many monsters he has to kill to return home.
I love this concept, not sure how it would really work, hope this gives some inspiration I suppose.
