Infernus feels great right now, but his afterburn is not a particularly potent source of DPS on its own. Instead of improved spirit scaling, we get a flat DPS boost for it -- Infernus leans heavily into gun. But what if we had a spirit leaning Infernus with a different playstyle?
TL;DR Infernus Grandpa that's mid-ranged like Talon and spirit focused.
Hear me out: Right now Infernus scales best with gun, and he does and always will be a short-mid ranged fighter. Afterburn is very useful, but it doesn't do particularly crazy damage right now. If the devs want to do some sort of branching skill tree where we can choose flat DPS on afterburn or spirit scaling that would work, but at that point I figure we might as well just keep it simple and have mirror characters for cases like this. Of course, like any good mirror character, this guy fills a niche and does things differently enough that he's a character of his own.
I propose a pseudo-mirror character named Asmo (like Asmodeus). He's like Infernus, but he's old and while his physical skills have deteriorated somewhat, he's a monster when it comes to spirit fuckery. He wields a roman candle which he uses for most of his abilities. Asmo is a short old Ixian man dressed in something hellish or traditional. Instead of fingerguns, he shoots slower firing firebolts. Much more generous fall off, effective range is akin to grey talon or vindicta.
Major differences:
- Asmo would be built for Infernus players that crave the ability to play safer and at a longer range, and also the ability to make Afterburn scale really well with spirit investment.
- Ixian Fire (Napalm alt): Basically works like alchemical fire, similar upgrades to napalm but with a considerably higher cooldown. Shoot a roman candle at something to place an AoE that burns for a duration. This has less potent debuffs than napalm, but it hurts like dash does and procs bAB. This is a zoning tool and an alch fire.
- Immolate: Asmo sets himself on fire to create a barrier out of flames. This is basically warden's 2. Alternatively we could have flame dash, but we take 50% damage, go much further and quicker but the dash barely does any damage, just procs bAB.
- Blue Afterburn: Like afterburn, but it exists separately from it as "cold fire". -25% bullet damage, + duration, then improved spirit scaling. To further differentiate itself, this could perhaps max at 5 or 10 stacks instead of 1 or something.
Two different ult ideas:
Czerb the Hellhound: Asmo summons Czerb (a play on Cerberus), who he rides to gain barrier and movement speed. At T5, highlights the enemy team, and grants a similar effect to heroic aura to teammates. Maybe doubles the proc rate of bAB. This would let Asmo chase, lead a charge (which would be interesting and cool for a backliner), and do grey talon-esque fun where he chases down someone down using his ult.
Alt Ult-Dust to Dust: Asmo immolates himself to the point that he turns to blue dust, which allows him to combine Infernus' dash with Calico's ult. An invulnerable flame dash in which we are very fast, and can confirm kills and get away. Longer cooldown than infernus ult. This would be just as good of a tool to escape with as it is to kill with.
I hope I cooked something neat here.
