Gnome Squad

Gnome Squad

Background:

For aeons, gnomes have been forced to live in the shadows, hunted by planar predators, downtrodden and abused by humans each of the few rare times they seeked contact with them, captured and sold as slaves... But the gnomes have had enough. After years in hiding, training, inventing, improving, and researching, the gnomes finally see in the ritual the opportunity to rise and take vengeance on their most hated foe: The humans shall pay for their oppression and constant destruction of nature, and the most elite gnome forces shall see to it by piloting the most advanced product of their military technology: A giant mech of nature and magic.

Too bad for the gnomes that 'giant' is a relative term, the mech being only human-sized. But gnome's finest will see it done nonetheless.

Aesthetics:
Gnome squad is a human-sized mech operated by many small gnomes. The mech is mostly made of wood, plants, and some pretty gnome gems, and has many flowers, mushrooms, and even an inhabited bird nest covering it.
Here's bad concept art:

Weapon:
At the end of one arm, the mech has a mounted gun nest operated by a gnome, which rapid-fires belt-fed pixies with an ammo supply stored on the mech's back. It's rapid-fire with noticeable spread.

Abilities:

Launch Fighters. The mech launches fighters (birds with gnomes on its back), which fire at opponents from the air (not too far above them). In effect, you cast a moving circle of repeating AoE damage that first moves away from the mech and then returns. Casting again allows you to change its trajectory and guide it.

Lay Ambush

A squad of gnomes leaves the mech from a launch pod, laying an ambush that lingers. Enemies that trigger the trap (ambush) gain bleed (gnomes latching onto them and continuously damaging them, similar to pikmin).

Repair

The mech temporarily shuts down, going into defensive mode, and gnomes exit the mech to quickly repair it. Recover health and gain increased resistances in repair mode. As the head tucks in, you cannot be headshot during repairs, but you cannot do anything until it ends or you cancel it. Gnomes very quickly erect scaffolding to repair it and the scaffolding gets removed when the effect ends or is cancelled.

The Nuclear Option
The mech goes into siege mode and fires its most devastating payload: A giant missile powered by the most arcane of gnome magics. Deals knockback and burst spirit damage in a large area, and can be targeted anywhere on the map similar to Mirage's teleport. The mech is vulnerable while firing, and there's a noticeable delay between firing and impact. The explosion leaves a long-lasting but low-damage damaging aura around the point of impact. Enemy heroes have a bit of time before escaping the impact area.

Interactions and voice lines
The squad leader does most of the voice lines, though sometimes other squad members also pitch in. Gnome squad is extremely professional, trained military personnel and talks as such. They love nature and their people and have a deep-seated hatred for humans. Voice lines hint that gnome society might be a militarized police state.

The OSIC knows the gnomes for the genuine threat they are, but most heroes see them as silly.
