Game starts to stutter after playing for awhile

Yesterday I had this problem. I was playing for some time late at night and eventually my game started to have lag spikes every probably half-minute to a minute, where it would freeze for a second.

My PC specs:
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 (MSI Gaming X Trio)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU @ 4.60 GHz
32 GB RAM
Windows 10

Im having a similar issue, game just randomly starts to chug after about 8-15 minutes. The only fix ive found is restarting the game. I also have a ryzen 5 5600X and a 3070, so it might be an issue with the combination or just the cpu or gpu. Might warrant further research into the topic. I am on dx11

Similar issue here on Linux. I've also noticed that I can make the game start stuttering a lot faster when I alt-tab often (using the Vulkan renderer)

update for this, switching to dx11 fixes the stutter issue for me
