game crashing on arch linux when typing in chat

Sometimes, when attempting to send a message in the ingame chat, my game will freeze and suddenly crash. This seems to only happen when the message is longer than the size of the chat window itself, and would place a character so that the text would need to scroll to show the rest of what you're typing.
I have not experienced this bug before in my time playing the game on windows.
If more details about my system are needed or you want me to attempt to reproduce it on video I can.

Also getting this, though it seems to happen sometimes even with shorter messages. doesn't happen every time but if i try to chat often eventually it will just crash me
