Game crashing leads to a ban (and Deadlock causing steam to be unable to close)

I was playing Paradox and just pushing a lane as per usual and the game randomly crashed, not a big deal. But the game actually somehow bricked my steam to the point I couldn't kill it with task manager so I had to restart my computer, which took several minutes. By the time I had my computer back on the match was done and I got banned for 6 hours.

I understand banning people for leaving but it seems pretty egregious to not have some kind of crash detection for a playtest that leads to players being unable to play for large spans of time.
