Explosive Punch!

"Your melee now has a 5m AOE explosion, guaranteeing damage even if you aim short."

Would feel very cool to blow someone up with your bare fist. lol

Also could make some melee builds FEEL more distinct, as well as give them more options.

(This idea came to me when I saw a Yamato use soft melee and then immediately using her alt fire, and it looked like the punch caused an explosion. I thought that looked like it could be fun.)

In what way does melee currently not feel distinct for heroes which are more melee centric?

When you say aoe, do you mean I could melee and hit someone behind me?

Would this be weapon damage or spirit damage from the aoe

Does the aoe damage increase based on light/heavy attack?

As it stands, a melee from a melee-centric character does not explode. If it exploded, that would be sweet. And also different. I like explosions.

That's my initial thought. Most of the time I like to punch when people are in front of me, though.

You could still get some damage on a turn punch. Which would be great. Helps mitigate the parry threat.

3. Would this be weapon damage or spirit damage from the aoe?
Spirit damage is my first instinct. Maybe if it were called "Exploding Gauntlets" it could plausibly be weapon damage.

4. Does the aoe damage increase based on light/heavy attack?
I would imagine so. Probably. Do you have an opinion?

I'm initially thinking of this as a 1,250 type power level thing. But imagine the 6,200 version of this. That would be pretty funny. KAPOW

My thinking is you make this a Defensive-Spirit item, something like...

1250 Soul
+50 hp
+2 hp regen
+8% weapon damage
Passive: Every 20 seconds, your next melee attack will explode on the target dealing X+(MeleeDamage + CurrentSpirit*1.05) in a 6m radius. Every light melee against an enemy hero reduces cooldown by 2s. Every heavy melee or successful parry against an enemy hero reduces cooldown by 5s. *Being parried will not negate the passive trigger damage.

This would pair pretty well with Hex, Supressor/Mystic Slow, and Bullet Resist Shredder and arguably t1 Mystic Burst. And because of the negation it would be worth attacking through a parry since the passive would still trigger. Feels somewhat niche, but a nice hybrid burst item with an anti-melee component.
