Entire server got FPS lag, massive increase in RAM use after pause

At the beginning of the game, there was a pause. After this pause, everyone on the server seemed to experience a massive amount of lag, fps dropping to less than 10. One player reported the game using >12GB ram at this time. Rejoining the game fixed the issue for everyone.

yeah i had that happen a few times. almost made my pc croak, at least it went into full overdrive and i had to kill the task before i rejoined after waiting a minute or two
