Just tested this, but if you do the current basic training (Where you are seven and learn controls, items, and then go destroy the guardian) and then finish. You cannot go explore the map in the "Explore NYC" option. You will just remain the character you were in the hideout and then be unable to swap heros or finish this bugged version due to being another hero. (I was Silver in this case and could not get past the ability upgrade section).
