4.5 billion years ago, the universe was not quite as we know it now. The fundamental forces were at play with each other in a dance across the cosmos. Immeasurable and ancient, certain forces knew and thought of nothing but the other. Two of these forces drew so close, a cosmic event tore spacetime with unknowable strength, the ripples still being felt by distant galaxies to this day. The embodiments of these forces were separated by the expanse of space and the vastness of time, one forming a planetoid near a star, the other forming a star itself across the universe. For the past 4.5 billion years, the soul of a distant Pulsar has been drawn to what we know as Earth, never losing this attraction, and stopping at nothing to reach its final resting place.

(Forgive my drawing abilities)
GAMEPLAY
Pulsar is an omnipresent offensive support hero, able to traverse the map quickly and turn fights to their favor or erase a disadvantage. With their third ability, General Relativity, they can change how gravity affects them, then use their 2, Density Slam, to slam straight “down”, whichever way that happens to be, dealing damage and applying a stun, then finish the fight with their blinding primary ability, Gamma Ray Burst. Pulsar’s “gun” is a disc of asteroids that they lob to deal damage. The arcing trajectory gives them modest range, but they follow Pulsar’s gravity, which can be used to their advantage. As Pulsar lacks a head, there are two weakspots, one on the underside of the body, and one on the very top, in a slight depression.

Various thoughts:
- As with many hero concepts, the numbers are kind of just vibes. I also had some difficulty with Ability Upgrades, so I just wanted to put some things I think the ability might be able to do at some point.
- The original inspiration was trying to find a way to give a hero global presence in a new way. We have mirage ult, we have paige ult, but something that I think is exciting about Pulsar is that they really wouldn’t work in a more traditional MOBA.
- I toyed with a lot of different ideas for the Ult, including making the gravity switch the ult, just because I’m a greedy sinclair player and I think that would be very fun to steal lol. Other ideas involved messing with the game clock or active durations due to ‘time dilation’, which I think could be really cool, though hard to utilize without building a team comp around it.
- I wanted to incentivize using the distorted gravity while also making sure it wasn’t too strong. The strengths are the shape of Gamma Ray Burst, the trajectory of the gun, the traversal with the two, and just being in places the enemy might not be looking. The drawbacks are that the weak spots are much easier to hit when sideways, it’s likely very disorienting to use, and you have perma slowfall, which is really good sometimes and really bad other times. Some additional possible nerfs could be reduced soul collection range from troops or hard cc setting gravity back to default. The goal was to get players to use it for a reason, not just do it because it’s different and then eventually just ignore it.
- In earnest, a big part of me making this whole hero suggestion is just to get the Deadlock team to look into a hero with sideways gravity. I just think that sounds like the goofy fun that would work well in the game.
