Can't play the game, even though I've been invited

I was invited to the play test and then I invited a friend of mine to the play test, and after 2 days the game says that he has already joined, but the thing is that he can't play.
We both have the steam family share, and when I play, he is not able to play since steam says that the available copy is being used. When he play I'm not able to do so for the same reason.
Is there a way for us to play at the same time? Or only one of us can play?

Description:
When inviting another user in your steam family to the deadlock playtest if that user then plays a family shared copy of the playtest the title's in game invite menu marks them as having "Already Joined" despite them not receiving or accepting an email invitation. The invited player is then still marked as not having access within steam and is shown a blue "Purchase" button on the game in the library tab of steam.

Note:
Having both accounts change their steam beta participation to none does not appear to impact or workaround this issue.
