I like fleshing out my hero concepts before I post them, such as with Cocoon and Splitter, but one concept I've had for even longer than those was Calvary. Unlike the aforementioned concepts, however, I have no idea how to develop Calvary into a full-on hero proposal. Maybe the community can help me fashion him into something more substantial?
ULTIMATE ABILITY - MOUNT/DISMOUNT: Calvary's main gimmick is the fact that he ride on a horse. This gives him greatly increased mobility on the ground (move/sprint speed, stamina, jump height/distance) at the cost of restricting him from all other forms of movement (teleporters, ziplines, ropes). His ultimate allows him to get on-or-off of the horse, depending on what his initial state is.
Should he start the match riding the horse, or not? Does the horse simply appear/disappear when the ability is toggled, or should the horse become an NPC entity that can act independently of Calvary? Should being on/off the horse give bonuses to Calvary's other abilities, similar to how Shiv's Rage gives boosts to his other abilities? What *should* his other abilities even be? These are the questions I was asking myself for months, and I struggled to come up with any answers that felt right, or at the very least 'decent'.
STORY/APPEARANCE: Calvary looks similar to a soldier in the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment-- The Rough Riders. One of his relatives fought in that regiment, maybe an uncle or grandfather, and Calvary grew up feeling a sort of second-hand nostalgia for the "last real wars" in the decades before the first Maelstrom. The antiquated uniform is legitimate-- maybe an heirloom from that relative, or purchased from a memorabilia collector-- but it's little more than cosplay. His real job is working as a horse handler for those tourist trap-y NYC carriage rides.
