Would basically be your typical old-timey British colonist/explorer type of character with a pith helmet and a bigass rifle. I guess something similar has already been pitched by someone, but I figured I would share my vision for the potential abilities.
I think his lore could be something along the lines of hunting for valuable artefacts for Big Boss Fairfax. Deeper lore would be that he lost his son on one of the expeditions and would try to summon the patrons to bring him back (would actually tie in nicely with Pocket/Maximilian lore as it would give the two common ground, and maybe be used by Maximilian to manipulate Burton into doing his bidding).
Main weapon: Slow-firing, heavy-hitting weapon with a relatively small magazine. Could maybe have some passive for doing extra damage to enemies whose health is above a certain threshold (big-game hunter buff). I imagine his base movement speed to be quite slow due to his big gun.
Ability 1: Trap A simple bear trap. Only one could be placed at a time (or could be made charged ability with some nerfs). If stepped upon would hold enemy hero in place for 1-2 seconds and apply bleed or movement slow or both, depending on its level. Could probably be tweaked so as not to feel too samey to Warden's cage. A cool interaction could be that when triggered, it gives the enemy 1 second to parry it before the jaws snap shut, which would cancel the root, and only apply the debuffs.
Ability 2: Toxic Blowdart A relatively fast-traveling, medium range (maybe slightly arcing) projectile fired from a blowpipe. Could apply various debuffs (maybe antiheal/firerate debuff would be most logical). Alternatively could be made charged ability and have a stacking poison effect depending on how many darts successfully hit the target (first would apply antiheal, second movement slow, third damage amp etc), so you could either meganerf one enemy or apply smaller annoyance to multiple targets.
Ability 3 (passive): Killer instinct. Enemies hit by Burton's main gun or abilities would leave behind a trail (lasting 5 seconds or so), making it easier for Burton to chase escaping enemies. Leveling up would highlight affected enemies through walls for one or two seconds. The last level would allow teammates to see affected enemies for 1 second.
Ability 4 (ultimate): Mysterious idol Burton plants/drops/throws a golden statue (or totem pole) which gives buffs to teammates in a radius (movement speed + firerate. Leveling up would also give temporary resist buffs and maybe some health regen. At max level would also provide 1-2 seconds of unstoppable (or alternatively clear all debuffs (although probably too OP)) to affected allies, but only upon its deployment. Duration would probably be around 10 seconds with a decent range. Could also be made destructible.
Alternative ability concept: Wild Machete, A close-quarters melee cleave causing bleed, perhaps giving Burton some temporary lifesteal.
Alternative ability concept 2: Grappling hook Who doesn't love 'em? Switching from the actual jungle to the concrete jungle, Burton would still want to make use of his skill swinging from vine to vine. Thinking this would be more suited to adding to existing good movement, would not give that much speed if deployed stationary, but could be quite fast if swinging in a big arc with some proper starting momentum. Could probably make for some sick movement tech in the right hands (+ some cool midair snipes with his rifle).
Just a quick, dumb idea I had.
